In May, a group of 40 journalists from 15 countries spend two days getting acquainted with ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ and its scope, stakes and challenges. The journalists attend presentations, meet project actors, film construction, tour the neighbouring tokamak Tore Supra, and visit a European manufacturing facility near Toulon (CNIM, in La-Seyne-sur-Mer) where series production has started on the huge radial plates for the toroidal field coils.
During a visit to ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ on 11 July 2014, the outgoing President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, strongly reaffirms Europe's commitment to the project. Accompanied by the French Minister of State for Higher Education and Research, Geneviève Fioraso, he explains that because "the future of Europe is in science and innovation," he had supported the project throughout his presidency.
On 20 November, the ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ Council nominates Bernard Bigot, from France, to succeed Osamu Motojima as the next Director-General of the ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ. The decision is "fully welcomed" by Osamu Motojima, who describes his successor as "an experienced manager of large projects, a leader who is able to find common ground, an excellent communicator, and someone who is highly respected in the fusion community."
